A lot of people struggle with their weight so much so that they give up on reaching their goals before they even achieve them.

Lets look at some of the reasons that are preventing you to have your best body:

  • You are probably not eating enough protein – the recommended protein intake for you and me is that we are supposed to eat a gram of protein for every pound you weight. Therefore if you weigh 160 pounds, you should be consuming 160 grams of protein on daily basis. Protein is good for weight loss because the body works to digest it off, letting you burn off some calories.
  • Skipping meals - people get so caught up in their daily lives that sometimes they skip meals. Skipping meals is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to weight loss, and most of the time you skip meals only to eat a lot of food at a later time. This cannot be good for your body. rather eat smaller meals throughout the day to ensure that your metabolism is up and also to have the necessary energy that your body needs to function optimally.
  • Eating too much fruit can get you fat – Did I just say that? YES I did. You already know how great the nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are found in fruit are for your bodies. The problem is that fruit have high sugar content. even though it is natural sugar it is still bad for someone whose goal is to lose weight. I am in way suggesting that you cut off sugar completely in your diet but I am just saying that be aware of the sugar that you are putting into your body if consume too much fruit. Rather eat more vegetables instead.
  • You are probably eating too little fat - Before you bite my head off I am talking about good fats, the likes of omega 3 that you find in salmon and sardines. our body needs that fat to lose weight, so ensure that you consume some of that.
  • The drinks that you consume – The drinks that consume are sabotaging your weight lose efforts. these is anything from alcohol to sports drinks that contain a lot of sugar to fizzy drinks. I am sure you know that the best drink and the healthiest is water, but for some reason you are not doing it. Why?

Now you have a little bit of knowledge about why you are still fat, there are probably others but these can get you going in examining yourself.

Successful weight loss is a constant awareness of the substances you put into the body, healthy choices and an exercise plan. These 3 things will work together to give you the body you want.

The Holidays Are Over! It Is Time To Burn That Fat Off Your Body!

4 Jan

I must admit the holidays certainly slowed me down in terms of exercise! Not only that, I was even eating larger portions than I should and was relaxed with the kind of foods that I was eating.

I figured holidays are really about family, friends and being thankful for the beauty in ones life. and they only come once a year, so I decided that I deserved to treat myself and enjoy whatever it is they came with.

The downside is that I did gain a few pounds!

With all the food and alcohol being served at these parties, I was actually grateful that I did not gain too much weight.

But I am not going to beat myself down about it.

I am going to take control again and start working towards my weight loss goals. Weight loss is a journey, because even you reach your goals you have to work hard to sustain that weight loss.

That is a big challenge for a lot of people, to stay motivated and keep doing what they have been doing to maintain their result.

I have already confessed that gym was the furthest thing from my mind this festive season, what about you?

Maybe you struggled last year to get your weight where you want it to be. Or maybe you had a million excuses as to why you were fat or didn’t have time to exercise or eat healthily.

Whatever reasons you are giving yourself, just remember that to be successful in anything, you must stop making excuses and feeling sorry for yourself.

Learn from whatever experience that life throws at you and don’t give up.

And remember the best time to start anything is TODAY!

Here some pointers that  personally use when I find it difficult to get the motivation:

  • Make a commitment to yourself and your health – losing weight is not just about looking and feeling great, it is also about being healthy. Being healthy means you are giving yourself a great chance to live your best life`because obesity comes with diseases and conditions that can possibly shorten your life.
  • Clearly define your goal and be clear about the steps that you need to get there – just thinking or wanting to lose weight is just not enough. You need more than just the desire, you must take action to get to where you want to go. Desire without action is futile.
  • Think with the end in mind – it is important to see yourself having accomplished your dream. Think about how you are going to feel, what your life will be like when you accomplish that goal. This will give you a reason to get up and do what you need to do.
  • Break your goal into small achievable goals – Sometimes a goal can overwhelm you because it looks too big of a goal to achieve. If it is smaller goals broken down, all of a sudden it does not look like such a huge task, and it is easier to picture yourself achieving it.
  • Set yourself time for achieving your goals – a goal without a time frame is very difficult to achieve. When there is a time to it, it will give you a sense of urgency, a sense of importance and this will propel you forward, allowing you to press forward in pursuit of your goals.

There you have the key points that I use everytime to accomplish any goal, and it helps me stay focused with my eyes on where I want to go.

Try it and feel free to share tops of your own that we can all benefit from.

When Last Were You Happy Looking At Yourself In The Mirror?

15 Dec

When I was over 20 pounds overweight, I hated the mirror. It was a constant reminder of how overweight I was, which would depress me even more, and as a result I would not want to exercise or eat healthily because I would think my effort was futile.

I was unhappy with myself and I felt ashamed, and as I result I dreaded this thing that I was trying to achieve – weight loss. Keeping at it when it seemed I was not getting the results became dreadful, almost like I would never achieve the results I was hoping for or that I was wasting my time in doing what I knew would one day yield results.

The biggest motivator for me was my health. When I was struggling in doing the right things and eating the right foods, I would remind myself of the risks of being overweight and the health risks associated with not eating the right type of foods.

And it really helped me that there is a history of high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes and cholesterol in my family.

When you are low on motivation and you are ready to throw in the towel, do not give up. Just sit and think about all the reasons why you are doing it, all the reasons that will benefit you, your family, your job, your health and your vitality and your body.

These reasons should be important enough for you to want to keep trying.

There are two basic things that you must never lose sight off when you are trying to lose weight – the value of exercise and eating properly. Those are the foundations of a healthy and effective weight loss and you should focus your energy on them.

The benefits of exercise and eating healthy are vast, but for some reason, some people will still want to opt for quick fixes using pills or diets. Yes, these might get you the results you want but chances are thy are unhealthy and you are most likely to go back to being overweight again.

Losing weight and being healthy should be a journey, not a destination. Your weight loss is something you should enjoy, because it will make it easier for you to commit to.

If you have hit a slump in your weight loss efforts, here are 3 of my favorite low impact exercises that you can start right away:

  • Biking
  • Walking
  • Swimming

These exercises will get you started on your great journey, and you will feel great again.

Do not give up on yourself or your health or your body.

Your efforts may feel futile, like you are wasting your time or effort, but anything that you do that benefits you can never be a waste. It is an investment into your tomorrow.

Keep pushing yourself and strive for a better you, and the next time you do look at yourself into the mirror again, you just might smile.

Don’t ever, ever give up!
